MATC Presents
Outstanding Employee and Team of the Year Awards
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) kicked off its new school year with
a positive start by honoring six Outstanding Employees of the Year. The
outstanding employees for the 2002-2003 school year are Edward Clarke,
vice president for Strategic Innovations; Ellen Hustad, administrative
assistant, President's Office and MATC District Board; Merlin Gerber,
machine tool instructor; Jim Grenzow, architectural drafting instructor;
Cindy Spankowski, supervisory management instructor and Catherine
Wilson, occupational therapy instructor.
The Outstanding Team of the Year Award went to the faculty of the Early
Childhood Education Program, including childcare instructors Bobbie
Curtis, Karen Natoli, Kathy Raschke, Sally Schrag, and Terrie Thompson.
In addition, Edward Rico, liberal studies instructor, received
the Devi Barghava Staff/Faculty Recognition Award given to staff members
who contribute to understanding the issues of students with disabilities.
These awards are presented annually to employees who have demonstrated
exceptional dedication to the goals and mission of the college, whether
through instruction or service to students and employees. MATC President
Beverly S. Simone presented the awards at the annual all-staff meeting
at the start of the fall semester.
The Outstanding Employees of the Year are chosen through a nomination
process of their peers. Nominations include information explaining why
the candidate should be considered along with the signatures of six employees.
Categories evaluated during the nomination process include performance,
human relations skills, innovation and creativity.
The Devi Barghava Staff/Faculty Recognition Award was established with
funds donated by her family and friends in memory of Devi Barghava, an
MATC employee whose lifework was as an advocate for students with disabilities.
The award was developed to recognize staff and faculty who demonstrate
a special understanding for students with disabilities. In addition to
this award, a scholarship also is awarded in her name to a graduating
student with a disability.
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System's
16 colleges. The college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in
southcentral Wisconsin and offers instruction through five campuses and
various other locations throughout the district.
