MATC TO HOST FIRST MADISON
APPEARANCE OF BEST SELLING AUTHOR TOM PETERS
Madison Area Technical College
will host the first Madison appearance of best selling author Tom Peters
on Thursday, October 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Madison Marriott
West, 1313 John Q. Hammons Drive in Middleton. Peters will present
"From Excellence to WOW: Reinventing the Rules for the Brand New
Workplace."This program will help employees create an "action
plan for survival" in a business world where the rules and challenges
are constantly changing.
With the rapid pace of change,
Peters, co-author of In Search of Excellence (recently named one
of the top three books of the 20th century by NPR Marketplace), is focusing
on the critical need for continual innovation in business. Promoting a
continuous search for talent and ingenuity, Peters says organizations
or departments within organizations should create a distinctive and recognizable
approach to work.
His message is simple: be
distinct or extinct. He's especially outspoken on the subject of creative
thinking. "If one of your employees agrees with you, fire them,"
he says. "You don't need the same idea twice."
In addition, a trio of revolutionary
new books, The Brand You, The Project and The Professional Service
Firm, has helped launch what Peters calls the "Work Matters!"
movement. Three other Peters' books, A Passion for Excellence (1985, with
Nancy Austin), Thriving on Chaos (1987), and Liberation Management (1992)
ranked at or near the top of the New York Times Bestseller List for years.
Tickets to this event are $299
