MADISON AREA TECHNICAL
COLLEGE REMAINS OPEN:
CLASSES, EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES TO BE HELD AS USUAL
All Madison Area Technical
College locations remain open today. Day and evening classes and extracurricular
activities at all MATC locations are planned to be held as scheduled.
The following is a message sent today to students via email from the vice
president of Student Services:
MATC Students,
On this day of tragedy it is important that we try to communicate information
essential to our mission of education.
MATC remains open
with no prospect of closing at this time. We are monitoring the situation
both nationally and locally and will keep you informed if this situation
changes.
Offices will remain
open with normal hours and classes will be offered as scheduled. We have
asked that our faculty take into consideration the circumstances of individual
students who may find it difficult to meaningfully engage in the learning
process at this time.
Please be aware that
counseling resources are available to our students as well as our employees.
I have attached below the recent email from our Counseling Services department
giving detailed information on this availability.
Our thoughts are with those undergoing this national tragedy.
Edward Clarke
Vice President of Instructional Services
In response to today's tragic events, counselors and other student services
staff are available to see students or staff who may need assistance with
the stress and emotions that accompany such circumstances. All staff members
who provide these services are available on a walk-in basis.
Please check in with the receptionists in the Student Services area so
that we can make the connections in an efficient manner. Truax offices
are in Room 159 and at (608) 246-6076 and Downtown in Room D105 and at
(608) 259-2979.
Students and staff at regional and other MATC locations should contact
their respective administrative offices to arrange for assistance.
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems
16 colleges and serves about 50,000 individuals annually. It provides
a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult
basic education and life enrichment studies and activities and offers
customized training for employees. It operates campuses in Madison, Fort
Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg and Watertown.
