MATC Global Horizons Series Presents Germany: History, Economics and Exchange
In a continuing effort to provide learning experiences that provide a
global view of today's world to its students, Madison Area Technical College
(MATC) is presenting a Global Horizons Series on Germany, focusing specifically
on its history, economics, and exchange opportunities. The series will
include lectures and panel discussion and will be held from October 6-13.

Writing in Place Workshop Takes Students to Italy
Informational Meeting Scheduled for October 5
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) is presenting an informational/pre-registration
meeting for Writing in Place: Italy, a new three-credit course
planned for August, 2001. The informational meeting will be held at MATC's
Downtown Education Center,
211 North Carroll Street on Thursday, October 5 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in
Room D125. Registration is limited to 18 students. While visiting some
of Italy's historic and beautiful landmarks, students in this course can
improve their creative writing skills and earn three college transfer

MATC Receives Grant to Assist Wisconsin Businesses with Government
Contracting
This week, the United States Department of Defense awarded Madison
Area Technical College (MATC) a grant for $210,000 to provide Wisconsin
businesses with technical and marketing assistance in government contracting.
The grant issued to MATC will continue the efforts of the college's Business
Procurement Assistance Center (BPAC).

Stephen Covey to Address Audiences in Madison
Stephen Covey, most noted for his book 7 Habits of Highly Effective
People, will address Madison audiences in person on Tuesday, October
3rd from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm at the Marriott Madison West, 1313 John Q.
Hammons Drive. Hosted by Madison Area Technical College (MATC), Covey
will speak on "The Four Roles of a Leader: How to Make Every Team

Auto Technicians Are More Than Your Average Blue Collar Worker
MATC will highlight career opportunities in the automotive industry at
a free Career Snapshots Seminar on Wednesday, September 27th. The seminar
will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the MATC Truax campus, 3550 Anderson

MATC District Board Endorses New Model for Accreditation; Receives Report
on WTCS Biennial Budget Proposal
At its September 11 meeting, the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District
Board endorsed the college's decision to select a new method of accreditation
offered by the North Central Association of College and Schools, Commission
on Institutions of Higher Education (NCA). NCA, which serves a nineteen-state
region, is one of six regional associations in the U.S. that accredits colleges,
universities and other degree-granting institutions of higher education.

MATC Announces New Hires
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) has announced several new appointments:
Scott Beard has been named regional campus administrator for the Portage
campus; Fred Brechlin will serve as facilities architect; Keith Cornille
joins the college as the Student Life administrator; David A. Hooker has
been named security manager; Ryan L. Liebert takes the helm as controller;
James Manners will serve as the manager of the National External Degree
Program; Lynn Perkins has taken the position of prospective student relations
coordinator; and Todd H. Stebbins will serve as the coordinator of part-time
instructors in the Arts and Sciences Division. see

Ecker Elected MATC District Board Chair; Brittingham and Jorgensen
Join as New Members
Judith Ecker, assistant director of the DeForest Public Library and a
DeForest resident, has been elected chair of the Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) District Board for the 2000-01 academic year. In addition,
Kenneth Brittingham, a McFarland resident and the administrator of its
school district, and Brian Jorgensen, a Madison resident and a 1997 MATC
graduate, are newly appointed to the board for three-year terms beginning
with the 2000-01 academic year. see
