MATC FACULTY
MEMBER
AND WISCONSIN VETERINARY TECHNICIAN ASSOCIATION
HONORED BY WISCONSIN VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION
The Wisconsin Veterinary Medical
Association (WVMA) honored the veterinary technician profession and two
Madison Area Technical College employees with awards at the organization's
annual statewide meeting held the October 12 and 13 in Madison.
The WVMA awarded a President's Award to the Wisconsin Veterinary Technician
Association (WVTA) for the group's work and continued commitment to the
health and well-being of animals and support of organized veterinary medicine.
The award was accepted by the WVTA president, Vicki
Carter, CVT, a part-time instructional assistant in MATC's Veterinary
Technician Program.
Another MATC instructional assistant, Teri
Raffel, CVT, also received an award from the WVMA. Raffel won the
Friend of Veterinary Medicine Award for her work to promote the profession
of veterinary medicine. She has worked with the Wisconsin legislature
on bills important to veterinary medicine including legislation that requires
continuing education for veterinary technicians as well as a rabies bill
to protect the state's animals and people. The Friend of Veterinary Medicine
Award has been given only five times in the past 87 years.
The two-year associate degree Veterinary Technician Program at MATC prepares
students with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively contribute
to the health and well-being of veterinary patients. Upon successful completion
of the program, graduates are eligible to take the Veterinary Technician
National Exam administered by the Veterinary Examining Board of the Wisconsin
Department of Regulation and Licensing. The program is accredited by the
American Veterinary Association's Committee on Veterinary Technician Education
and Activities.
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System's
