MATC SUPERVISORY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM OFFERS TRAINING FOR CAREER ADVANCEMENT
In today's marketplace, an employee with managerial experience is an asset to any business. Madison Area Technical College (MATC)'s Supervisory Management Program is designed to provide supervisory training for individuals who want to prepare themselves for a supervisory position or those who need additional training.

"While downsizing is happening at the mid-management level, jobs are increasing at the supervisory level," states Instructor Bob Priester. "Also, the workplace is changing from autocratic - a top-down - management style to a style focusing on cooperation and collaboration." This new focus in management will require supervisors on all levels to upgrade their skills.

The Supervisory Management Program divides the curriculum into three development areas: management skills; critical leadership skills; and interpersonal enrichment. The traditional program is designed with flexibility for the individual student in that they can take as many or as few courses a semester as meets their needs and fits their schedule. By signing up for individual courses, they can complete the program at their own pace.

The accelerated Supervisory Management FASTRACK Program is designed for the student who wants to get a degree in the minimum amount of time by reducing the in-class time in half. A student can complete the degree in as little as 18 months depending on their previous education. Students attend the same evening one night a week and stay with the same group of students. Students in both the traditional and FASTRACK programs can transfer their credits toward a four-year degree at several area colleges.

Course topics include conflict and change; workplace ethics; leadership development; and quality management. A large number of students in the program have been promoted or are aspiring supervisors. "Bringing work experiences into the classroom creates a richer learning experience," notes Instructor Cindy Spankowski. "Our teaching methods are unique because we use various instructional methods including case studies, role playing, and integrated papers and limit the traditional lecture format." Additional information on the program is available by calling (608) 258-2378.
