MATC Supervisory
Program Offers Training for Career Advancement
"While downsizing is
happening at the mid-management level, jobs are increasing at the supervisory
level," states Instructor Bob Priester. "Also, the workplace is changing
from autocratic - a top-down - management style to a style focusing on
cooperation and collaboration." This new focus in management will require
supervisors on all levels to upgrade their skills. see

Board Approves New Advanced Technical Certificate in Web Programming
At its October 25 meeting, the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District
Board approved the offering of a new academic certificate program in Web
programming and reviewed plans by the college to significantly expand
its offerings of shorter-term technical certificates. These types of technical
certificates are being designed to meet the increasing demands of employers
for highly targeted, short-term instruction. Short-term certificates can
develop employees quickly who are 'work-ready' in specific skill and employment

MATC Students
Receive Record Number of Scholarships from the Association of Diesel Specialists
The jobs are plentiful, the pay is good, yet the diesel industry is in
great need of trained technicians. The Association of Diesel Specialists
(ADS) is working with educational institutions around the country to promote
the industry and recruit students. In Madison, seven students in Madison
Area Technical College's (MATC) Diesel programs have received $500 scholarships
for the 2000-2001 school year from ADS and the Ortner Educational Foundation.

ARTS PRESENTS THE GUT GIRLS
Comic Drama Set in the Victorian Slaughterhouse
It's not a typical setting for a comic drama about the lives of a group
of women. But The Gut Girls is a theatrical piece that the London
Financial Times called, "humane and hugely funny." Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) Performing Arts will present Sarah Daniel's The Gut
Girls October 27-28 and November 3-4, at 8 pm in the Mitby Theater
on the MATC Truax Campus, 3550 Anderson Street.

Board Sets Property Tax Levy for 2000-2001; Receives Indoor Air Quality
Report; Approves Development of New Associate Degree in Animation
At its October 11 meeting, the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District
Board voted to levy a combined operations and debt service property tax
levy of $56,022,637. The board established a mill rate of 1.46680, a decrease
of .84% from last yearŐs mill rate of 1.47929. For each $100,000 of value,
property owners will pay approximately $146.68, or $1.25 less than last
year, to support MATC. see

MATC Free Seminar Promotes Careers For Those with an Interest in Science
In today's high-tech workplace, communication skills and attention to
detail are key attributes valued by potential employers. Madison Area
Technical College (MATC) invites individuals with these skills who are
interested in challenging and good paying careers to attend a free Career
Snapshots Seminar. Held on Wednesday, October 18, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm,
at the MATC Truax campus, 3550 Anderson Street, this seminar will present
information on the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician; Electron Microscopy;
and Medical Laboratory Technician programs. see
