FILM RECEIVES FREE SHOWING AT ORPHEUM THEATER
Naturally
Native, the first film written, directed, produced, and starring Native
American women, is coming to Madison for a special one-day only show at
the Orpheum Theater, 216 State Street. The film is being co-sponsored
by Madison Area Technical College's Student Life Office, the Madison Art
Center, and UW-Madison's American Indian Student Academic Services. The
film is free to the public with a showtime on Tuesday, November 28, at
2:00 p.m.
Naturally Native
successfully premiered at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival and has since
won various awards. The story follows the personal and professional lives
of three Native American sisters as they try to start their own business.
The screenplay, written by actress, co-director, and producer Valerie
Red-Horse, reflects the reality of the modern Native American family living
off the reservation--a reality she had not seen in other films.
