MATC FREE SEMINAR
PROMOTES ENGINEERING-RELATED CAREERS
Individuals
who have an interest in math and computers don't necessarily need a four-year
degree to earn a good salary. People with those skills can easily find
well-paying careers that utilize their problem-solving abilities and interest
in high tech equipment. Madison Area Technical College (MATC) invites
individuals to find out more about these challenging and good paying careers
at a free Career Snapshots Seminar. Held on Wednesday, November 15, from
5:30 - 7:30 pm, at the MATC Truax campus, 3550 Anderson Street, this seminar
will present information on the Civil Engineering Technician; Machine
Tool Technics; and Mechanical Design Technician programs.
Visitors to the seminar
will receive an overview of these programs and then be able to participate
in hands-on sessions that focus on specific career areas. Activities include
a chance to view a solid modeling demonstration using SolidWorks¨; guess
the load a concrete cyliner can support before it fails; use an engineer
scale to survey distance; experience practical applications of computer-aided
manufacturing; and see tool and die making, mold-making, and precision
repair machining in action. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity
to talk with MATC alumni and industry representatives about career prospects
in each field and learn more about MATC's free career counseling resources
and how these programs can be applied toward a bachelor's degree.
The Civil Engineering
Technician Program prepares technicians to assist civil engineers in planning,
scheduling, designing, estimating, surveying and inspecting the construction
of highways, bridges, buildings, and other structures. Specific courses
provide a student with the option for a career in land surveying.
The Machine Tooling
Technics Program provides training for employment in tool and die making;
mold making; Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) programming; and precision
repair machinists. Students utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD)/Computer-Aided
Manufacturing (CAM) technology and state-of-the-art machining centers
in this hands-on, two-year program. Students gain the knowledge and skills
necessary to plan and complete a machined part, injection mold or stamping
die and will learn to work from blueprint specifications and shop drawings.
There are many opportunities for growth in this career area. Machine Tool
careers provide interesting and challenging work in a clean, high-tech
environment.
The Mechanical Design
Technician Program has been designed to provide quality training in mechanical
design and computer-aided design to meet the needs of the diverse industry
found in the MATC district. Graduates of the Mechanical Design Technician
Program find jobs with a variety of manufacturing industries including
metal fabrication, consumer products, medical devices, plastic thermoforming,
injection molding, furniture and cabinetry companies.
Career Snapshots
is a series of seminars presented by MATC that allows attendees to participate
in an interactive program focusing on a particular career field. Whether
changing careers or simply exploring different career options, community
members of all ages are encouraged to attend. Reservations are not required
but are requested and can be made by calling 608/243-4237 or by emailing.
MATC is one of the
largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System's 16 colleges. It provides
a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult
basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as
customized employee training. MATC provides training in more than 100
career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational diplomas and
certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college serves all or
parts of 12 counties located in southcentral Wisconsin and offers instruction
through five campuses and various other locations throughout the district.
