Receive Distinguished Teacher Awards
The Madison Area
Technical College (MATC) Foundation presented Distinguished Teacher Awards
to two of the college's faculty at the recent MATC spring commencement
ceremonies. The recipients of the awards were English and Spanish Instructor
Thomas J. Curtis and Human Services Instructor Harold Gates.

Graduates at Spring 2002 Commencement
Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) will recognize1766 graduates at its spring commencement
ceremonies on Saturday, May 18th at 10 am in the Alliant Energy Center
Memorial Coliseum. Student Sarah Umhoefer will deliver the commencement

1766 Students To Receive
Diplomas At MATC Spring Graduation Ceremony
Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) will present diplomas to 1,766 graduates at its spring
commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 18, 2002. The ceremony begins at
10 am at the Alliant Energy Center Memorial Coliseum located just off
John Nolen Drive in Madison. The graduating class includes students from
MATC's Madison campus, as well as its campuses in Fort Atkinson, Portage,
Reedsburg and Watertown campuses.

Awarded President of the Year Award
by American Association for Women in Community Colleges
Dr. Beverly S. Simone, president
Madison Area Technical College (MATC), has been awarded the Carolyn Desjardins
President of the Year Award by the American Association for Women in Community
Colleges (AAWCC). Each year, the organization selects one chief executive
officer from among the nation's 1200 two-year colleges to receive the
award. Recipients, who may be female or male, are honored for making significant
contributions to women in community and technical colleges and demonstrating
outstanding support for AAWCC's goals.

National Tourism Week Begins with Good News as MATC
Celebrates 20 Years in Tourism Services Education; Instructors Reflect
on Many Changes in the Field
As National Tourism Week kicks off this week, a new study reports
uplifting findings for the field. "Travel looks like it will be on
the rise again," states Jack Hart, hotel and restaurant management
program director at Madison Area Technical College (MATC). "Business
travel is expected to increase by 8 percent and leisure travel by 6 percent.
That is terrific news for those who work in the field, as well as for
the entire country."
