How to Create or Join Email Groups?
08/16/05

There are a number of ways you can communicate via email with specific groups of employees without needing to type in every single individual's email address. Read on to learn more about how to:

Send an Email Message to a GroupWise Public Group
The GroupWise email system address book contains a variety of public user groups (PSRP Union, Leadership Council, Full Time Faculty, etc.). If you need to send an email message that is relevant to a particular group of employees, you can address your message to that specific public group. Simply select the 'Address Book' icon in your GroupWise client and scan the list of email accounts to find the relevant address. back to top

Create a New GroupWise Public Group
If you would like to create a public group account for your organization or department to be listed in the GroupWise address book, contact Janet Granberg at jgranberg@matcmadison.edu or 243-4122. back to top

Communicate with a Specific Group of Students or Colleagues Using Blackboard
By setting up a "course" in Blackboard, an online course management system hosted on the MATC Website, you are able to define a group of students or colleagues and exchange communications and documents. Students or colleagues in your course or group can log on to the Blackboard site to read messages you've posted or retrieve documents you leave for them. You can create chatrooms and post timelines, syllabi and much more. Best of all, you can save time by composing one message that is sent to all students in your class or members of your workteam. To learn more about these options, contact blackboard@matcmadison.edu or call Dennis James at 243-4501. back to top

Join or Create a Topic-Specific Mailing List
If you wish to receive mail and/or exchange information of shared interest with co-workers on specific topics, please subscribe to any of the following mailing lists, hosted by L-Soft, a mailing list system that is separate from the GroupWise system. These addresses are not listed in the GroupWise address book, since they are not hosted by GroupWise. However, you will still recieve all email messages sent by other members of the list at your GroupWise account. Please note that when you reply to a message sent from a mailing list, you are replying to the whole list, not just the original person who posted to the mailing list.

The following mailing lists are available for the uses noted:
