We've received official word that the MATC Tool Kit has been selected for inclusion in the the Madison Sesquicentennial Time Capsule! Thanks to all of you who showed your MATC spirit and voted early and often, and encouraged our students and others to do so also.
The final results of the public vote, held online on Channel3000.com throughout October, rated our Tool Kit at 3 stars with 4,208 votes. Although we didn't receive the highest rating or most votes, during the last week of voting our submission was placed in the first position on the voting webpages. Perhaps an MATC grad was in charge of repositioning the items each week and gave us the best spot in the final days — we don't really know but it wouldn't surprise us!
According to WISC-TV Ch. 3 Reporter and Anchor Katy Sai, who directed this project, the time capsule team tried to fit as many items into the capsule as possible and in the end, were able to include 72 objects from the public voting gallery and 33 items selected by the Mayor's Jury. In all, more than 200 suggestions were offered for the capsule.
On November 15, a public "loading" of the capsule will take place on the Rotunda Stage at the Overture Center and on November 16, an official "sealing" ceremony open to the public will be held at 5:30 p.m. during which the 1,200 pound limestone cap will be lowered and set onto the three foot square time capsule bench. Then, the MATC Tool Kit will be recorded as part of Madison history, to be rediscovered by a future generation when the time capsule is opened in 2056.
The MATC Tool Kit was created as a customized submission for the time capsule to represent a sampling of tools used in our programs and by our graduates. It includes 10 tools, plus a chart of all of our more than 140 programs and certificates, Facts At a Glance, plus a WolfPack decal and baseball schedule.
Each tool is tagged with a description and a graduate photo from the career it represents:
- stethoscope and chart of the human body
- Intel Pentium III processor and 256MG RAM memory chip
- corkscrew with cork
- hair cutting guide comb
- portable radio
- micrometer
- micropippeter and an image of DNA gel
- PDA
- color wheel
- Transfer Contract with the UW-Madison and liberal arts study guides
Thanks again for helping to ensure that MATC is recorded as an essential contributor to our community and our history! |
