FACULTY/ADMINISTRATION: Invitation to Summer Seminar by US Institute for Peace
11/13/06

MATC has received an invitation for college faculty and administrators from the United States Institute for Peace for the organization’s summer seminar. If you are interested in applying for this opportunity, please discuss with your dean or manager.

The United States Institute of Peace is now accepting applications for its summer seminar for community college faculty and administrators — Global Peace and Security in Community Colleges and the Communities They Serve — to be held May 29-June 3, 2007, in Washington, DC.

The Institute of Peace is an independent nonpartisan national institution established and funded by Congress. Its mission is to help prevent, manage and resolve violent conflicts by empowering others with knowledge, skills and resources, as well as through direct involvement in peacebuilding efforts. The seminar will give participants the opportunity to carefully examine the nature of international peace and security and how community colleges can relate this to their students and local communities.

Presenters will include leading authorities on global peace and conflict, as well as from the field of community college education. The application process is competitive. The Institute will cover the costs of lodging, and contribute to travel and incidental expenses. Community college faculty and administrators from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds are urged to apply.

The application can be found online. The deadline for applications is March 16, 2007.
