Nominations Due for Special Service Awards for the Commencement Ceremony, Thursday, December 21, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. in the H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, Truax Campus.

COMMENCEMENT SPECIAL SERVICE AWARDS

Special recognition will be given to graduating students on the basis of special service (non-academic) to the school and fellow students. A gold cord will be worn at the commencement ceremony and a Special Service certificate will be forwarded with the diploma. Recipients will also be designated in the commencement program.

PROCESS OF SELECTION

A. Two staff members must agree to nominate a student by completing the nomination form (Word document) in order for that student to be a candidate for the Special Service Award. The completed nomination form must be submitted to Mary Robbins by December 8, 2006 to appear in the commencement program.

B. Selected students should be nominated based on non-academic criteria with emphasis on service to fellow students and the college. When submitting a name of the nominee, please include a brief summary of the accomplishments and/or performance which would qualify the student for the award.

C. Criteria for selection include any one of the below items:

1. Actively involved in the college community (i.e. Student Senate).

2. Participated in local, state, or national club/organization officially registered with MATC (described & listed on the MATC website).

3. Volunteered for duties in the interest of fellow students and the college - the school newspaper, open house, athletic events, social functions, tutoring, community relations, etc.

4. Demonstrated leadership, respect, responsibility, and initiative in classroom, shops or laboratories.

5. Won an award in outside competition while representing MATC.

6. Any other accomplishment(s) which in your judgment would qualify your graduate.
