PHI
THETA KAPPA SPRING INDUCTION CEREMONY HELD AT MATC
Eighty-one students
from the Madison area were inducted into Madison Area Technical College's
chapter of Phi Theta Kappa during the college's 2000-2001 spring induction
ceremony on February 19, 2001.
Phi Theta Kappa,
with more than 1,100 chapters worldwide, is an international honor society
that has been recognizing academic achievement in two-year colleges since
1918. The society is dedicated to advancing four hallmarks: scholarship,
service, fellowship and leadership. To be eligible for membership, students
need a minimum of 12 associate degree credits and a cumulative grade point
average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
The MATC chapter,
Beta Beta Psi, began in the fall semester of 1995 and quickly became one
of the nation's largest. This springs induction brought the current
active membership to 246.
MATC is one of
the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems 16 colleges.
It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and
science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities,
as well as customized employee training. MATC provides training in more
than 100 career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational diplomas
and certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college serves all
or parts of 12 counties located in south central Wisconsin and offers
instruction through five campuses and various other locations throughout
the district.
