| WHY: |
MATC
students and staff are visiting Fermanagh College as part of our sister
college partnership established in 1999. The students and instructors
are participating in two credit courses in tourism at Fermanagh College.
President Bill Clinton is in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, to
help dedicate the Higher Bridges Building, which houses the Clinton
International Peace Centre, and is one of five open online learning
sites in Northern Ireland. Clinton traces his family roots to County
Fermanagh and contributed to the building of Higher Bridges, constructed
on the site of a former reading room tragically bombed in 1987 by
the IRA.
President Clinton is keenly interested in technical education and
promoting online learning worldwide. Upon learning of MATC's partnership
and visit with Fermanagh College, he asked to attend the videoconference
to discuss and acknowledge our sister college partnership and online
learning efforts.
