FIVE AREA
STUDENTS RECEIVE MATC TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Five area students
have received Technical Excellence Scholarships from Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) for this fall. This is the first time MATC has awarded
the scholarships, made possible by donations from several local and national
businesses and individuals.
Recipients receive $500 per semester for two consecutive semesters-a total
of $1,000. The scholarships are awarded to high school (or equivalent)
graduates and are based on academic achievement and recommendations. Students
applying for the scholarships must be accepted into one of a selection
of technical programs offered at the college including Agricultural Equipment
Technology, Biotechnology Laboratory Technician, Electronics, Medical
Laboratory Technician, Optometric Technician, Welding and others.
MATC awarded scholarships to Michael Bretl of Fort Atkinson and Katherine
Cutler of Sauk City, who are entering MATC's Auto Technician program;
Kelly Krubsack of DeForest, entering the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician
program; Mandy Martinson of Waunakee, entering the Medical Laboratory
Technician program and Ryan Rippchen of Richland Center, entering the
Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing program.
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System's
16 colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal
arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and
activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC provides training
in more than 100 career programs. The college serves all or parts of 12
counties located in south central Wisconsin and offers instruction through
five campuses and various other locations throughout the district.
