FIVE AREA STUDENTS RECEIVE MATC TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS

Five area students have received Technical Excellence Scholarships from Madison Area Technical College (MATC) for this fall. This is the first time MATC has awarded the scholarships, made possible by donations from several local and national businesses and individuals.

Recipients receive $500 per semester for two consecutive semesters-a total of $1,000. The scholarships are awarded to high school (or equivalent) graduates and are based on academic achievement and recommendations. Students applying for the scholarships must be accepted into one of a selection of technical programs offered at the college including Agricultural Equipment Technology, Biotechnology Laboratory Technician, Electronics, Medical Laboratory Technician, Optometric Technician, Welding and others.

MATC awarded scholarships to Michael Bretl of Fort Atkinson and Katherine Cutler of Sauk City, who are entering MATC's Auto Technician program; Kelly Krubsack of DeForest, entering the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician program; Mandy Martinson of Waunakee, entering the Medical Laboratory Technician program and Ryan Rippchen of Richland Center, entering the Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing program.

MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System's 16 colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC provides training in more than 100 career programs. The college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south central Wisconsin and offers instruction through five campuses and various other locations throughout the district.
