MATC Career
Snapshots Seminar Profiles In-Demand Health Careers
Millions of people need help
performing basic life functions such as breathing, eating, grooming and
getting dressed. They rely on the care of health professionals such as
respiratory care practitioners and occupational therapy assistants to
help them with these and many other vital functions. As the age of the
population, including baby boomers, increases, so is the expected demand
for respiratory care and occupational therapy services.
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will focus on these health careers
in an upcoming Career Snapshots Seminar to be held on Tuesday, February
12 . The free seminar will be held at the MATC Truax Campus located at
3550 Anderson Street in Madison from 6-8 pm. Registration for Career Snapshots
by calling 608/246-6239 or go to Career
Snapshots online.
The seminar will offer attendees a chance to observe demonstrations, participate
in hands-on activities and to learn more about these careers. Attendees
will listen to the sound of air moving through healthy and diseased lungs,
measure the oxygen level in the blood stream, learn about adaptive devices
that improve individuals' ability to work, play and live. Attendees will
be able to talk with instructors, graduates or students of MATC's Respiratory
Care Practitioner and Occupational Therapy programs.
Career Snapshots is a series of seminars presented by MATC that allows
attendees to participate in an interactive program focusing on a particular
career field. Whether changing careers or simply exploring different career
options, community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.
MATC is the second largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems'
16 colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal
arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and
activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC awards associate
degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses.
The college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central
Wisconsin and offers instruction through five campuses and various other
locations throughout the district.
