MATC
to Graduate 1,071 Students at Mid-Year Commencement
Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) will graduate 1,071 students at its mid-year commencement
ceremony on Friday, December 20. The ceremony, to be held at 2 pm at the
Exhibition Hall of the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, will include
graduates from MATCs Madison campus, as well as its Fort Atkinson,
Portage, Reedsburg and Watertown campuses. The graduate address will be
given by Monona resident, Clareta Norton, who is earning an associate
of arts degree from the colleges Liberal Studies Program. Clareta,
a deans list student, has been active in numerous campus organizations
and has served as an officer of Phi Theta Kappa, the colleges academic
honor society. In addition, she was selected for and completed an internship
through the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World.
Other speakers at
the ceremony will be MATC District Board Chair James Cavanaugh and MATC
President Dr. Beverly S. Simone.
Of the graduates,
424 will receive two-year associate degrees or diplomas and 647 will earn
one-year or shorter-term diplomas. Among the colleges more than
100 academic and occupational programs, those graduating the most students
this semester include: Arts and Sciences, Business, Computer Information
Systems, Nursing, Law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Technician.
One hundred and eight
graduates received academic honors. This honor is given to graduates who
have earned a GPA of 3.75 or higher in courses within their programs of
study. The Special Service Award was granted to 6 graduates. This award
is given to students for their service in student government, clubs and
activities, their demonstrated leadership and initiative in the classroom,
and their awards and accomplishments outside of the college.
MATC is the one of
the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems' 16 colleges and
serves approximately 50,000 individuals annually. It provides a comprehensive
curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education
and life enrichment studies, as well as customized training.
