MGE Announces Building Trades
Scholarships
Five Madison Area Technical
College (MATC) students interested in careers in the building trades will
receive a boost from the Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) Building Trades
Scholarships beginning this fall. The $3,250 scholarship fund will sponsor
five students. Three of the $650 individual scholarships will be awarded
this fall semester and two more $650 scholarships will be given out in
the spring.
"The scholarships were a very natural next step for MGE," states
Dave Borski, MGE Residential Services Manager. "We've always supported
the building trades and then our recent experience with LaFollette High
School students gave us an opportunity to see the next generation of tradespeople.
These kids worked so hard on the MGE/LaFollette Green-Built Home we decided
to acknowledge that enthusiasm with a scholarship fund for MATC students
in the building trades."
New and returning MATC students are eligible to apply for funds from the
$3,250 scholarship fund if they are enrolled full time. A grade point
average of 2.5 and residency in the MGE service area is preferred.
"Every day MGE works with talented and dedicated people in the building
trades. We ask for their help in spreading the word on these scholarships,"
said Borski.
For additional details on the application process, contact the MATC Technical
and Industrial Division at (608) 246-6801. September 28, 2001 is the application
deadline for the fall semester and January 25, 2002 is the deadline for
the spring semester. The MATC Technical and Industrial Division Scholarship
Committee will select the recipients.
