MATC IS ONE OF 39 SCHOOLS NATIONWIDE SELECTED
AS HP TECHNOLOGY GRANT RECIPIENT
Madison Area Technical College is one of 39 two- and four-year colleges and universities in the United States and Puerto Rico to receive a 2008 HP Technology for Teaching grant, which is designed to transform teaching and improve learning in the classroom through innovative uses of technology.
MATC will receive an award package of HP products and a faculty cash award valued at more than $77,000.
The grant package includes 21 wireless HP Tablet PCs, which will be used by MATC’s electrical engineering and electronic technology students and faculty.
"This mobile computer tool will revolutionize the way students and teachers can engage and learn," says MATC instructor Dr. Gashwin Saleno. "The computers allow students to sketch diagrams, and write symbols, formulas, and notes directly on a screen that can flip and fold like a pad of paper."
Saleno says the high-tech equipment will be available to MATC students this fall.
Since 2004, HP has awarded $60 million in Technology for Teaching grants to more than 1,000 schools in 41 countries.
MATC provides "real world smart" education as one of 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System. It serves 12 south-central Wisconsin counties through a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs through five campuses and numerous community locations.
