GROUNDBREAKING SET AT MATC'S FORT ATKINSON CAMPUS
Madison Area Technical College’s Fort Atkinson campus is growing.
At 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, school officials and local dignitaries will celebrate the groundbreaking of the campus' $2.35 million expansion project.
Fort Atkinson's current building is being enlarged by nearly 10,000 square feet. The addition will help the campus meet increased demand for health care, business and college transfer programs, as well as other specialized training.
"Our expansion will provide the space and facilities essential to our ability to train highly-skilled workers ready to meet current and future health care needs for this community and our state," says MATC President Bettsey Barhorst.
Under state law, MATC is allowed to spend up to $1.85 million on any single project. The remaining $500,000 was raised through a community campaign.
MATC provides "real world smart" education as one of 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System. It serves 12 south-central Wisconsin counties through a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs through five campuses and numerous community locations.
