MORE WOMEN NEEDED IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
MATC HOSTS CAREER EXPO

High technology jobs are in big demand right now, so it might be surprising to learn the number of women in computer information technology careers has actually taken a dip.

The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) says the percentage of women in IT has dropped 21 percent since 1996.

To help boost those numbers, Madison Area Technical College is hosting a “Women in Computer Information Technology Expo,” from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2. The expo will be held in room 142C at MATC’s Truax campus, 3550 Anderson Street.

Women will be able to learn more about IT careers in web development, programming, systems administration, networking, and security. Salaries for these careers start at about $40,000.

The expo will also feature guest speaker Laurie Benson, the CEO and founder of Inacom Information Systems.

To learn more about the expo, go to matcmadison.edu/IT/WomenInIt, or call 608-246-6802.

MATC provides "real world smart" education as one of 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System.
