MATC FOCUSES ON GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTIONS
It’s being called the largest teach-in and action on climate change in U.S. history.
On Thursday, Jan. 31, Madison Area Technical College will be among more than 1,000 schools throughout the country that will participate in an exciting new educational initiative to help reduce global warming. It’s called Focus the Nation.
Here’s what is planned at MATC:
- 9-9:30 a.m. — State Rep. Spencer Black
- 9:35-9:55 a.m. — MATC Focus on Going Green
- 10-10:40 a.m. — Dr. Jonathan Foley—SAGE
- 10:45-11:45 a.m. — The 2% Solution Webcast
- 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. — Dane Co. Exec. Kathleen Falk
- 12:30-4 p.m. — Movie: An Inconvenient Truth
MATC will also have a biodiesel semi-truck, a solar-powered golf cart and bus stop, and more than a dozen hands-on exhibits and workshops on ways to help reduce global warming. People signing MATC’s Green Pledge sheet will also get a free energy-saving fluorescent light bulb.
MATC provides "real world smart" education as one of 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System. It serves 12 south-central Wisconsin counties through a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs through five campuses and numerous community locations.
