MATC THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE STUDENTS HOLD STRESS REDUCTION WORKSHOP
FOR DISPLACED HOMEMAKERS
Stress. It’s something that affects all of us. So, what’s the best way
to fight it?
That’s a question therapeutic massage students at Madison Area Technical College have been working on all semester. In partnership with MATC’S Turning Point program and the YWCA, the students are holding a stress reduction workshop for displaced homemakers from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13 in room 240 at MATC’s downtown campus.
Displaced homemakers are those who have worked in their homes for a number of years without getting paid, but now need to find work outside the home. Turning Point helps the homemakers realize their education and career goals. That includes helping them get a degree from MATC, or transfer to a four-year college, then landing their dream job.
Therapeutic massage students will be giving free chair massages to the displaced homemakers. They’ll also have informational booths on:
• Identifying stress
• Stress personalities
• Meditation and visualization
• Art therapy
• Laughing Yoga/humor
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s 16 colleges. It offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs of study. The college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin and offers instruction at five campuses, Madison, Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg, Watertown and numerous community locations throughout the district.
