MATC HONORS TOP STUDENTS

It’s not easy to attain a 3.75 grade point average or higher. It takes a lot of hard work and determination.

All that hard work is paying off for 53 Madison Area Technical College students. They will be inducted into the technical college’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, during a special ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held in the Mitby Theater at MATC’s Truax campus.

For the first time, Phi Theta Kappa’s local chapter, Beta Beta Psi, is including students who have enrolled in online courses through MATC. Beta Beta Psi is also hosting the first retreat for advisors in the Wisconsin-Minnesota-Dakota Region. It will take place at MATC this November.

Phi Theta Kappa has more than 1,100 chapters worldwide. The international honor society has been recognizing academic achievement in two-year colleges since 1918. To be eligible for membership, students need a minimum of 12 associate degree credits and a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.

MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s 16 colleges. It offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs of study. The college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin and offers instruction at five campuses; Madison, Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg and Watertown, and numerous community locations throughout the district.
