AREA HIGH SCHOOL KIDS GET A JUMP START ON HEALTH CAREERS
Forget about that "Operation" board game you played with as a kid. About 300 area middle and high school students will get to try out their surgical skills on a very life-like patient…the "Sim-Man." He breathes, he talks, he even has oozing wounds.
The training mannequin is just one of the many exciting, hands-on displays that will be featured Thursday, Oct. 4 at Madison Area Technical College’s "Career Pathways." The event runs from noon until 3 p.m. in room 142 (Student Lounge).
The program gives kids a first-hand look at the many health careers available at MATC—including surgical technician, nursing, dental hygienist, and respiratory therapist.
Five other “Career Pathways” events will be offered at MATC this school year.
- November 15—Agri-Science and Technologies
- February 15—Business and Applied Arts
- February 28—Construction, Manufacturing, and Technology
- March 6—Protective Services (Commercial street campus)
- April 17—Liberal Arts/UW Connections
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems' 16 colleges. It offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs of study.
The college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin and offers instruction at five campuses—Madison, Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg, Watertown and numerous community locations throughout the district.
