MATC HOSTS GIRL TECH 2007 EVENT JUNE 26-28
FOR TEEN GIRLS INTERESTED TECHNOLOGY CAREERS

Forty-five girls expected to attend MATC event sponsored by area tech companies
At Girl Tech 2007, participants will solve a crime CSI style by isolating fruit smoothie DNA, program a robot to take care of animals in a LEGO zoo, create their own animated movies, go on a wireless treasure hunt, survey land and create maps based on their data, and use interactive computer technology to learn about networks and security. About 45 girls in grades six through nine will attend the event and can choose from these and several other hands-on activities that will bring them up close with cutting edge technology. see press release

MATC DISTRICT BOARD APPROVES 2007-08 BUDGET
The Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District Board voted at its June 13 meeting to adopt the 2007-08 fiscal year budget. The budget of $187,067,000 includes an estimated mill rate of 1.16751. For every $100,000 in assessed property value, district property owners will pay $116.75 in taxes to support MATC, $4.48 less than last year when property owners paid $121.23 for every $100,000 in assessed value. The estimated mill rate will be adjusted in October based on actual equalized property valuation assessments. see press release

MATC TO BUILD HEALTH COMPLEX ADDITION AT FORT ATKINSON CAMPUS
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) announced plans this week to expand its Fort Atkinson campus to help meet increased demand for health care, business and college transfer programs as well as other specialized training. The multipurpose facility, located at the corner of Madison Avenue and Banker Road in Fort Atkinson, will provide increased classroom and laboratory space. The project is scheduled to begin next April with completion in September 2008 if the college and community are able to complete financing for the project. see press release

MATC HONORS MORE THAN 100 AT HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY COMPLETION CEREMONY JUNE 7
Madison Area Technical College will hold its 15th Annual High School Completion Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m. in the Mitby Theater at MATC–Truax, 3550 Anderson Street. The cap and gown ceremony honors students who have completed requirements for a high school option, including the High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), the General Educational Development (GED) certificate, the External Diploma Program (EDP) and the High School Equivalency Program (HEP). A reception in the cafeteria will follow the ceremony. see press release

LOCAL LATINO COMMUNITY MEMBERS INVITED TO EXPLORE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AT MATC WORKSHOP
In Dane County, the largest segment of the rapidly growing Latino community is between 15 and 24 years old. Like their counterparts in the broader community, young Latinos are looking towards their educational and career futures. With this in mind, Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will host its seventh annual Latino Educational Opportunities Workshop for Spanish speakers on Saturday, June 9. see press release
