MORE WOMEN NEEDED IN IT AS THEIR EMPLOYMENT IN INDUSTRY DECLINES;
Local Business Community and MATC Take Action with March 14 Expo
to Interest More Women in IT Careers
The National Science Foundation (NSF), Madison Area Technical College (MATC) and local information technology (IT) employers are concerned about a significant downward trend among women working in information technology careers. From a high of 41 percent in 1996, the percentage of women working in IT declined to 32.4 percent in 2004, according to the Information Technology Association of America. At MATC, the percent of women preparing for IT careers has dropped to less than 20%. see media alert

MATC EARNS DESIGNATION AS NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER
FOR ALTERNATIVE FUEL AND HYBRID VEHICLE TECHNICIANS
The National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC), the only alternative and advanced technology vehicle training organization in the country, has named Madison Area Technical College (MATC) a National Training Center and member of the Consortium. NAFTC helps promote the adoption of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles through its National Training Centers offering a variety of automotive training programs for technicians, fleet managers, public safety and first responder organizations and the public. see press release

100 MATC STUDENTS GET READY FOR SPRING BREAK
BY BUILDING HANDS-ON SKILLS
THIS SATURDAY FOR "ALTERNATIVE TRIPS" IN APRIL
This Saturday morning, March 10, four groups of MATC (Madison Area Technical College) students will work with local non-profit agencies to build their construction, food service and human services skills. They are preparing for "Alternative Spring Break" volunteer trips to New Orleans, Appalachia, Washington, D.C. and New York. see press release

OSCAR WILDE’S "THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST"
Madison Area Technical College Performing Arts will present Oscar Wilde’s witty and well-loved play, The Importance of Being Earnest, March 9-11 and 16-18. Friday and Saturday performances start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. The play will be performed in the college’s Mitby Theatre, 3550 Anderson St. in Madison. see press release
