100 MATC STUDENTS GET READY FOR SPRING BREAK
BY BUILDING
HANDS-ON SKILLS
THIS SATURDAY FOR "ALTERNATIVE TRIPS" IN APRIL
This Saturday morning, March 10, four groups of MATC (Madison Area Technical College) students will work with local non-profit agencies to build their construction, food service and human services skills. They are preparing for "Alternative Spring Break" volunteer trips to New Orleans, Appalachia, Washington, D.C. and New York.
During spring break week March 31 - April 7, the students will perform volunteer work through the day, Monday through Friday with non-profit organizations. The students pay $400 to $475 for this unique "service learning" experience, which covers their travel, meals, lodging (often "bring your own" sleeping bags), and some sightseeing/cultural activities.
The students will post photos and journals of their experiences and thoughts daily during their trips on the MATC Website at: http://matcmadison.edu/studentlife/volunteerism/scrapbook
Since it has kept the cost low for students, the MATC Volunteer Center has set a fundraising goal of $5,000 help cover costs for the Alternative Spring Break Programs. To contribute, donors can send a check made payable to:
