MATC INVITES PUBLIC TO TOUR COLLEGE DURING NOV. 9 COLLEGE SPOTLIGHT
More than 100 Programs and Services Featured during fun, Hollywood-themed Event

On Thursday evening, November 9 from 4 to 7 pm, Madison Area Technical College’s main Truax location, 3550 Anderson Street, will cast a Hollywood-style glow against the night sky as prospective students, their parents, families and the general public all are offered a backstage pass to experience the college’s programs of study and services.  Visitor will be able to explore 144 “degrees of success,” thrill to career and college transfer options, learn about smaller class sizes, flexible scheduling and financial aid, meet with faculty and staff stars and talk with graduates.

“We are staging the college with tours, demonstrations, career and financial aid experts, faculty students and graduates to put the spotlight on the many programs and services we offer prospective students and our community,” states MATC President Bettsey Barhorst.  “MATC provides ‘real world smart’ education, whether you are just out of high school or a returning adult wanting to sharpen your skills or retrain for a new career.  Our programs and faculty can help you become a star in a wide variety of health, business, technical, public service, construction or manufacturing careers.  We also can help you become an academic VIP and transfer through our contract to the UW—Madison, or to other  bachelor’s degree programs.”

Among the career programs being featured are animation, architectural technician, automotive, biotechnology, broadcast captioning, cabinetmaking, civil engineering, culinary arts, diesel technology, electron microscopy, interior design, medical coding, optometric technician, paralegal, photography, plastics technology, therapeutic massage, visual communications and welding.  A complete list of program and services being featured is available at on the MATC Website.

Visitors will be able to view or take part in a variety of demonstrations, including:  automotive, CAD/CAM, DNA, online learning, speech recognition, surveying, thermoforming, ventilation respirator, optical exam, biodiesel, solar energy, digital forensics, vet tech, plasma arc welding, and Windows Vista.  They also can complete a Hollywood scavenger hunt for prizes in the library, use a treasure map to check out Multicultural Services, step into the Next Generation with Prospective Student Relations, attend “Show Me the Money” on financial planning in English or Spanish, or join Indiana Jones and the College Crusade to learn about academic success strategies and college as a life adventure.

Registration is not required to attend MATCs College Spotlight and open parking is available in the MATC Truax parking lots.

MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s 16 colleges. It provides “real world smart” education through a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs of study. The college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin and offers instruction through five campuses and numerous community locations throughout the district.
