Fifty students from all five campuses were inducted into Madison Area Technical College’s (MATC) chapter of Phi Theta Kappa during the college’s 2006 fall induction ceremony on
October 9, 2006.
Phi Theta Kappa, with more than 1,100 chapters worldwide, is an international honor society that has been recognizing academic achievement in two-year colleges since 1918. The society is dedicated to advancing four hallmarks: scholarship, service, fellowship and leadership. To be eligible for membership, students need a minimum of 12 associate degree credits and a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale.
Beta Beta Psi began in the fall semester of 1995 and quickly became one of the most active chapters in the state. The chapter has received 5-star status (the highest ranking) for implementing programs of service, scholarship, fellowship and leadership in the community. With this fall’s induction, Beta Beta Psi will have recognized the academic achievement of over 1,600 MATC students.
MATC is one of the largest of Wisconsin Technical College System’s 16 colleges. It provides “real world smart” education through a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs of study. The college serves parts of 12 counties located in southcentral Wisconsin and offers instruction through five campuses and numerous community locations throughout the district.
