MATC OFFERS FREE CAR CARE CLINIC SERVICE WITH FOOD PANTRY DONATION
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will be holding a free car care clinic Saturday, November 4 from 9 am to 2 pm at its Truax facility, located at 3550 Anderson Street near Hwy. 51 in Madison. The clinic, operated by MATC automotive students with assistance from MATC automotive instructors, is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis in exchange for a non-perishable food item that will be donated to a local food pantry. see

MATC DISTRICT BOARD ADOPTS PROPERTY TAX MILL RATE AND LEVY FOR 2007
At its October 18 meeting, the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District Board voted to approve a 2007 property tax levy of $78,718,990. The board established a mill rate of 1.21225, a decrease of 4.29% from last year’s mill rate of 1.26664. For each $100,000 of property value, property owners will pay approximately $121.23, or $5.43 less than last year, to support MATC. see

Club will host “The Da Vinci Code: Its Use of the Fibonacci
Sequence, the Golden Ratio and Cryptography,” presented by
UW–Washington County Professor Gary Britton. Britton will

STUDENTS RECEIVE COCA-COLA SCHOLARSHIPS
Penny Bykowski and Billy Jack
Houston, students at Madison Area Technical College, each have received
a $1,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship
Program. The national program awards scholarships to students based
on their academic achievements and record of community service. see

University College of Education
Dr. Jon R. Bales, superintendent for the Deforest Area School District
and member of the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District
Board, will be inducted into the Illinois State University’s

MATC's Bakken, Redfield Receive 2006 Distinguished Teacher Awards
The
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Foundation has selected Turina
Bakken, a marketing instructor, and Karen Redfield,
an English instructor, to receive the college’s 2006 Distinguished
Teacher Awards. Established by the MATC Foundation in 1982 and co-sponsored
by college’s student honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, this annual
award recognizes faculty members for their contributions to students
and the college. Students, faculty and staff members nominate candidates,
who then are considered for the award based upon their effectiveness
in working with students, mentoring or orienting of new faculty, consulting
with peers, providing service to the college, and participating in professional
development, alumni and community activities. see

Administrative Support Field Growing
With Advanced Technical Skills Commanding Highest Salaries
The administrative support field will grow overall by about 12.5
percent through 2014 with most new positions developing in the medical
support area and in those demanding increased responsibility, according
to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The demand is strongest for well-trained
workers with specialized skills and technical savvy. see press release
