Students Attend Weeklong “Learning to
Learn Camp” to Help Make Transition
from High School to College;
Unique Three-Credit Course Stresses Team Building,
Study Skills, Goal Setting and Fun
WHAT:

Madison Area Technical College’s (MATC)
annual Learning to Learn Camp, a unique weeklong “camp” that
prepares recent high school graduates for their first year
of college.
Instructors at the camp, part of a three-credit course that
includes weekly follow-up discussion sessions held during
the fall semester, coach students as they practice team building,
goal-setting and study skills in a fun and relaxed setting.

Approximately 100 new high school graduates starting their
first semester of college at MATC on August 28. To ensure
personalized attention and coaching during the camp, the
students are supported by about 50 MATC faculty and staff
members. |

WHY: |
Research shows that the first six weeks of the semester are
critical for the success of new college students. Eighteen
percent of local high school graduates enroll at MATC directly
from high school. The “Learning to Learn Camp” is
offered to these first-time college students to help prepare
them for success in college. |
