TWENTY-FIVE STUDENTS WIN MATC TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE
SCHOLARSHIPS
Twenty-five 2006 high school graduates have been selected
to receive 2006 Technical Excellence Scholarships to attend Madison Area
Technical College this fall. The Technical Excellence Scholarship is
a scholarship for entering first-year students at MATC who have completed
a high school diploma, GED, or HSED in good academic standing. see

MATC District Board Approves 2006-07 Budget
The Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District Board
voted at its June 14 meeting to adopt the 2006-07 fiscal year budget.
The budget of $177,617,000 includes an estimated mill rate of 1.21945.
For every $100,000 in assessed property value, district property owners
will pay $121.95 in taxes to support MATC, $4.72 less than last year
when property owners paid $126.67 for every $100,000 in assessed value.
The estimated mill rate will be adjusted in October based on actual equalized
property valuation assessments. see

MATC Offers Training Seminars to Help Businesses
Win Government Contracts;
July 27 Sessions Will Focus on General Services Administration and Proposal
Writing
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will help area businesses
learn how to effectively compete for contracts to sell their products
and services to the federal government at four training seminars to
be held on Thursday, July 27, 2006. The training sessions will be conducted
by the Business Procurement Assistance Center (BPAC) in the TEC Center
located at 3591 Anderson Street, Madison, WI 53704. A $25 fee for each seminar
will cover the cost of materials. see press release

LOCAL LATINO COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO EXPLORE EDUCATIONAL
OPPORTUNITIES
AT UPCOMING WORKSHOP AT MATC
The Latino population of Dane County has grown by more
than 150 percent since 1990. A young population, the largest age group
is between 15 and 24 years-old. Many are looking for educational opportunities
and ways to increase their employment options. On Saturday, June 10, about
100 Latinos living in the Madison area will learn about a variety of
important educational and job support
programs including English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, apprenticeship
opportunities in trades and services such as barber cosmetology and childcare,
technical diploma programs including Automotive and Diesel Technology
and health care programs such as the ESL Certified Nursing Assistant
and Language Interpreter for Health Services programs. Participants also
will learn about interviewing skills workshops and employment opportunities
at MATC. see

MATC HONORS MORE THAN 100 AT
HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY COMPLETION CEREMONY
Madison Area Technical College will hold its 14th Annual High School
Completion Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, June 6, at 7 p.m. in the
Mitby Theater at MATC–Truax, 3550 Anderson Street. The cap and
gown ceremony honors students who have completed requirements for a high
school option, including the High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED),
the General Educational Development (GED) certificate, the External Diploma
Program (EDP) and the High School Equivalency Program (HEP). A reception
in the cafeteria will follow the ceremony. see press
