MATC Students Win Top Honors in Skills USA Competition

Three Madison Area Technical College students will advance to national competition after winning first place medals at the SkillsUSA Wisconsin Spring Conference. A total of 11 MATC students won first, second or third place medals in the competition, held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison in April.

Eight hundred middle school, high school and technical college students competed in 65 events. In addition to showcasing their skills in technical and health occupations, the SkillsUSA Conference provided students with opportunities to explore career education options and meet with potential employers through exhibits, seminars, and one-on-one interaction with college, business and military representatives.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America). MATC Diesel Program director Paul Morschauser serves as SkillsUSA’s state director.
