Career Snapshot April 26 at MATC Promotes Building Construction
On Wednesday, April 26, building construction
apprenticeships will be featured at a Career Snapshot event
at MATC’s Commercial Avenue Education
Center in Madison, with support from the Shane O’Donnell Memorial Fund.
It is one of a series of activities MATC is planning to boost the apprenticeship
program and attract more young people to promising careers in high-skill, high-wage

Real-Life Experience Cooking Up April 29 “Evening of Good Taste” Event
About
100 MATC students from Madison Area Technical College’s
Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and Meeting and Event Management programs
are cooking up a very special event on Saturday, April 29. Under the
direction of MATC's four accomplished chefs and special guest chef Odessa
Piper, founder and former owner of Madison’s L’Etoile Restaurant,
the students will present "An Evening of Good Taste" from 7

UW-MADISON, MATC ANNOUNCE STUDENT 'TRANSFER CONTRACT'
MADISON - The University of Wisconsin-Madison and its longstanding
local partner, Madison Area Technical College, are strengthening their
productive relationship.
As part of a pilot agreement signed today (April 19) by
UW-Madison Chancellor John Wiley and MATC President Bettsey Barhorst,
a qualified student can begin his or her postsecondary education as a
freshman at MATC and two years later, be guaranteed admission as a transfer
student at UW-Madison. see

Madison Area Technical College
(MATC) Community Show Choir will showcase some of America’s best-loved songs from their many
shows over the past 25 years on Sunday, May 7. The Show Choir’s
Spring Super Show 2006 will feature a wide variety of songs including “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah,” “Just
a Closer Walk With Thee,” “What I Did For Love,” “The
Rose,” “Colors in the Wind,” a melody of Irving Berlin’s “A
Century of Song,” and other popular selections. see

Help with applying for college financial aid is available at Madison
Area Technical College’s Financial Aid Week, April 11 through 13.
Special events and special presentations are planned for all MATC campuses,

and food – all designed to interest local high school and MATC

MATC Offers Training to Help Wisconsin
Businesses Win Government Contracts
Madison Area Technical College will help area businesses learn
how to effectively compete for contracts to sell their products and services
to the federal government at a training seminar to be held on Wednesday,
May 17, 2006. The training will be conducted by MATC’s Business
Procurement Assistance Center (BPAC) in Room 106 at the TEC Center, 3591
Anderson Street, Madison, WI. A $25 fee for the seminar will cover the
cost of materials. see

More Women Needed
in IT as Their Employment in Industry Declines;
Local Business Community and MATC Female IT Instructors Take Action
With April 6 Expo to Interest More Women in IT Careers
The National Science Foundation (NSF), Madison Area
Technical College (MATC) and local IT employers such as TDS, American
Family Insurance, WPS and Inacom, are concerned about a significant
downward trend among women working in information technology
careers. From
a high of 40% in 1986, the proportion of women employed in the IT
field dropped to 29% in 1991, and continues to decline. see
