America's “Social Health” is
Topic of MATC Global Horizons Lecture
On Thursday, March 23, at 7:30
p.m. Madison Area
Technical College (MATC) will present a lecture by Dr. Marque Miringoff,
professor of sociology at Vassar College, who will discuss “The
Social Health of the Nation: How America is Really Doing.” The
event, held in Room 240 on the MATC–Downtown campus, is free
and open to the public.

The Index of Social Health examines social health through
a sophisticated analysis of multiple variables including
family income, medical health, housing, child poverty, drug
use and other social indicators. This barometer of social
well-being paints a very different picture of the direction
of American growth than do economic indices such as GDP.
