MATC Performing Arts Presents Chess
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Performing Arts’ spring
production is the powerful musical about Cold War intrigue, Chess.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday
nights, March 3, 4, 10 and 11, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays, March
5 and 12, in the Mitby Theater at MATC Truax, 3550 Anderson Street.
Chess features the lyrics of Tom Rice (Aida, Phantom
of the Opera)
and the music of Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus (the male members
of the musical group ABBA). Set against the back drop of a cold-war
era World
Chess Championship, this powerful musical tackles the questions
of truth, honor and loyalty.
The MATC production is directed by
Wm. Patrick Barlow. The conductor is Jeff Peronto with vocal
direction by Joshua Dupont and choreography
by Robin Fonfara. Production stage manager is Christopher Lechner.
Tickets
for Chess are $14 general admission, $12 for seniors,
$10 for non-MATC students and $6 for MATC students. Tickets
may be
purchased by calling the Mitby Theater Box Office at (608)
243-4000 Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
MATC is one
of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s
16 colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical,
liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment
studies and activities, as well as customized employee training.
MATC offers associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates,
and non-degree courses in more than 140 programs of study. The
college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in southcentral
Wisconsin and offers instruction through five campuses and numerous
community locations throughout the district.
