AND TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) honored seven Outstanding
Employees of the Year for 2005, as well as two Outstanding Teams of the
Year. The outstanding employees for 2005 are Shawna Carter of Sun Prairie,
student activities specialist; Cindy Douglas of Madison, administrative
assistant; James Langkamp of Janesville, music instructor; Kevin
Mirus of Madison, mathematics instructor; Judith
Olson Sutton of Madison, associate

The
Outstanding Teams of the Year Award went to the college’s Arts
and Sciences administrative assistants and to the nursing
instructional staff. In addition, Kate Grovergrys, of Madison, Spanish instructor,
received the Devi Bhargava Staff/Faculty Recognition Award given to staff
members who contribute to the understanding of the issues of students
with disabilities.
These awards are presented annually to employees who
have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the goals and mission of
the college, whether
through instruction or service to students and employees. The college
presented the awards at the annual all-staff meeting in the middle of
the fall semester.
The Outstanding Employees of the Year are chosen through
a nomination process of their peers. Nominations include information
explaining why
the candidate should be considered along with the signatures of six employees.
Categories evaluated during the nomination process include performance,
human relations skills, innovation and creativity.
The Devi Barghava Staff/Faculty
Recognition Award was established with funds donated by her family
and friends in memory of Devi Barghava, an
MATC employee
whose lifework was as an advocate for students with disabilities. The award
was developed to recognize staff and faculty who demonstrate a special
understanding
for students with disabilities. In addition to this award, a scholarship also
is awarded in her name to a graduating student with a disability.
