MATC Announces 2005 Outstanding Employee and Team of the
Year Awards
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) honored seven
Outstanding Employees of the Year for 2005, as well as two Outstanding
Teams of the Year. The outstanding employees for 2005 are Shawna
Carter of Sun Prairie, student activities specialist; Cindy
Douglas of Madison, administrative assistant; James
Langkamp of Janesville, music instructor; Kevin
Mirus of Madison, mathematics instructor; Judith
Olson Sutton of Madison, associate dean; Gwen
Torkelson of Adams County, former assessment manager and
current human resources director; and Gerard Xavier of
Madison, counselor. see

College to Graduate 1,200 Students at Mid-Year

Madison Area Technical College (MATC)
will graduate about 1,200 students at its mid-year commencement
ceremony on Thursday, December
22, 6:30 p.m. in the H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, MATC Truax, 3550
Anderson Street, Madison. Graduates from MATC’s Madison campus,
as well as its Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg and Watertown campuses,
will participate in the ceremony. The event will be broadcast via
a live video stream at www.matcmadison.edu with
DVDs of the ceremony available for later purchase. see

New Hmong Refugees Learn Wood Refinishing Skills in UW-Funded
MATC Class;
Program Prepares Refugees for Wood Refinishing Careers
An MATC hands-on intensive wood refinishing class and a
special celebration held among a group of new Hmong refugee students,
their teachers, educational coaches and area businesses. The celebration
marks the completion of this first pilot class, funded by the Ira and
Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment as part of the University
of Wisconsin-Madison Hmong Literacy, Language & Jobs Project. see press release

MATC Offers Training to Help Wisconsin Businesses Win Federal
Work;
January 26 Sessions Will Focus on General Services Administration (GSA)
Madison Area Technical College will help local businesses learn how to
effectively compete for federal contracts through the General Services
Administration (GSA)
at two training seminars to be held on Thursday, January 26, 2006. The training
sessions will be conducted by MATC’s Business Procurement Assistance
Center (BPAC) in Room 106 at the TEC Center, 3591 Anderson Street, Madison,
WI 53704. A $25 fee for each seminar will cover the cost of materials. see

MATC Performing Arts Holds Auditions for Chess
Madison Area Technical College Performing Arts is holding auditions for its spring
production of the powerful musical about Cold War intrigue, Chess. Open auditions
for actors/singers/dancers will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 12,
and Tuesday, December 13, in the Studio Theater, room 206, MATC Truax, 3550 Anderson
Street. Roles available include a cast of principle characters consisting of
seven men (adult to old age) and two women (adult). One child role is available
for Young Florence. The ensemble of 10-12 people will play numerous roles. see
