MATC Offers Training to Help Wisconsin Businesses
Win Federal Work;
January 26 Sessions Will Focus on General Services Administration
(GSA)
Madison Area Technical College will help local businesses learn
how to effectively compete for federal contracts through the General
Services Administration (GSA) at two training seminars to be held
on Thursday, January 26, 2006. The training sessions will be conducted
by MATC’s Business Procurement Assistance Center (BPAC) in
Room 106 at the TEC Center, 3591 Anderson Street, Madison, WI 53704.
A $25 fee for each seminar will cover the cost of materials.
“Competing for federal contracts can be a great way for local
business to increase their sales. Our seminars have helped hundreds
of Wisconsin
businesses improve their chances of winning federal contracts,
which creates jobs and promotes economic growth in the communities
we serve,” said
Dr. Bettsey Barhorst, MATC President.
The federal government spent
over $300 billion to buy products and services during 2004 and
25% of these dollars was spent through
the General Services Administration or GSA. “The federal
government is the largest purchaser of goods and services in the
world, yet Wisconsin ranks near the bottom in competing for this
business. Our seminars will help businesses learn how to tap into
the GSA market,” said Denise Kornetzke, BPAC director.
Each
year more and more federal buyers use the GSA Schedules to do their
buying. Businesses can learn more about GSA by attending
one or both of the seminars that will be offered on Thursday, January
26. The morning seminar, entitled “General Services
Administration (GSA) Part I,” to be held from 9-11:30
a.m., addresses many of the challenges a business will face when
deciding whether or
not to pursue a General Service Administration contract. The afternoon
seminar, “General Services Administration (GSA) Part
II” from
1- 3:30 p.m., will focus on completing the GSA solicitation paperwork.
Contract negotiating and contract compliance issues will also be
discussed along with how to market your GSA contract.
Registration
for the BPAC seminars is required and can be done either online
or by phone. Visit http://matcmadison.edu/bpac/events.htm for

BPAC by email at bpac@matcmadison.edu or

and marketing assistance to Wisconsin businesses. In 2004, BPAC helped companies
win over 3,200 government
contracts valued at over $205 million, resulting in the creation or retention
of 6,575 jobs in Wisconsin.
