MATC Features Fast Growing Technical Careers
At
Informational Event
Technical and industrial jobs are projected to grow
approximately 20% in Wisconsin from 2002-2012, according to the
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. Many of these well-paying
jobs require training beyond high school.
In an effort to meet workplace
demands, MATC will focus on these careers in an upcoming Career
Snapshots to be held on Tuesday,
November 15. The free career exploration event will be held at
the MATC Truax Campus located at 3550 Anderson Street in Madison
from 6-8 pm and is open to the public.
This Career Snapshot at MATC
will offer attendees many hands-on activities, including a chance
to diagnose automotive drivability
using computer scanners; design components using Mastercam Solid
Modeling; observe woodworking demonstrations; isolate DNA and
learn about genetic engineering and view completion of a two-color
print
job. MATC instructors, students and alumni working in these fields
will be available to answer questions. Registration for Career
Snapshots is available online at www.matcmadison.edu or
by calling 608/246-6239.
MATC will feature agricultural equipment technology,
automotive, automotive collision and repair, cabinetmaking & millwork,
civil engineering technology, diesel technology, electronics, electrical
engineering technology, industrial maintenance, machine tool, mechanical
design, printing and publishing, welding, biotechnology, veterinary
technician and lab animal technician career programs.
“MATC
is the source for one- and two-year technical diplomas and a whole
variety of associate degrees offering this type of training,” states David
Shonkwiler, dean of the Agriscience, Apprenticeship, and Technical & Industrial
Division at MATC.
Career Snapshots is a series of evening
seminars presented by MATC that allows attendees to participate in an interactive
program focusing
on particular career fields. Whether changing careers or simply exploring different
career options, community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.
MATC is
the second largest of the Wisconsin Technical College Systems’ 16
colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and
science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as
well as customized employee training. MATC awards associate degrees, vocational
diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college serves
all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin and offers instruction
through five campuses and various other locations throughout the district.
