MATC Features Fast Growing Technical Careers at Informational
Event
Technical and industrial jobs are projected to grow
approximately 20% in Wisconsin from 2002-2012, according to the
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. Many of these well-paying
jobs require training beyond high school.
In an effort to meet workplace demands, MATC will focus
on these careers in an upcoming Career Snapshots to be held on Tuesday,
November 15. The free career exploration event will be held at the
MATC Truax Campus located at 3550 Anderson Street in Madison from
6-8 pm and is open to the public. see

Madison Area Technical College Offers Free
Car Care Clinic Service
With Food Pantry Donation
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will be holding
a free car care clinic Saturday, November 5 from 9 am to 2 pm
at its Truax facility, located at 3550 Anderson Street near Hwy. 51 in
Madison. The clinic, operated by MATC automotive students with
assistance from MATC automotive instructors, is open to the public on
a first-come, first-served basis in exchange for a non-perishable food
item that will be donated to a local food pantry. see press release

Madison Area Technical College District Board
Adopts Property Tax Mill Rate and Levy for 2006
At its October 19 meeting, the Madison Area Technical College
(MATC) District Board voted to levy a property tax levy of $74,977,293.
The board established a mill rate of 1.26664, a decrease of 3.49% from
last year’s mill rate of 1.31242. For each $100,000 of value, property
owners will pay approximately $126.66, or $4.58 less than last year,
to support MATC. see

Area Technical College to train more students for jobs in a high-demand
field, ease a shortage of qualified barber/cosmetologists in the Madison
area, and provide affordable services to area residents. see

MATC Offers Training to Help Wisconsin Businesses Win Government
Contracts
Madison Area Technical College will help area businesses learn
how to effectively compete for contracts to sell their products and services
to the federal government at two training seminars to be held on Wednesday,
November 9, 2005. The training sessions will be conducted by the Business
Procurement Assistance Center (BPAC) in Room 104/105 at the TEC Corridor,
3591 Anderson Street, Madison, WI 53704. A $25 fee for each seminar will
cover the cost of materials. see

MATC Hosts "Fermat's Last Tango," a
Math Musical,
Followed by Fourth Annual Middle School Math Competition
On Friday,
October 14, the Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Math Club will host the
all-day Math and Music Festival 2005.
Events begin at 8:30 a.m. with a performance of the musical, “Fermat’s
Last Tango,” by the students of Madison East High School. The play
will be followed by the fourth annual Middle School Math Competition.
The competition includes three rounds with winners announced starting
at 12:15 p.m. During the last round at 11:15 a.m., the Math Club also
will host a Math Trivia Contest. Most events will be held in the college’s
Mitby Theater at the MATC Truax location, 3550 Anderson St., Madison. see

MATC Construction Students Combine Learning and Community Service to
Help with
Stoughton Rebuilding Efforts
On Tuesday, October 11, from 1 to 4:20
p.m., a group of Madison
Area Technical College (MATC) students will make onsite deck repairs
to a Stoughton house hit by the tornado that touched down in that community
August 18. The house, belonging to Stoughton resident Rob Hohert, suffered
damage during the tornado that left one person dead and $45.6 million in
damages across the region. The repairs offer the students an opportunity
to help the community while learning about deck framing and repairs and
about structural damages from tornadoes. see
