MATC Career Snapshots Profiles
Business,
Computer and Art Careers
Two million new jobs are expected
to be added nationwide in professional, service, management,
business and financial occupations between
2000 and 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Madison
Area Technical College (MATC) will focus on educational programs
leading to careers in the business, computer and art fields at
an upcoming Career Snapshots
on Thursday, October 13 from 6-8 p.m. The free career exploration
event will be held at the MATC Truax Campus, Student Lounge, Room 142C,
3550 Anderson Street in Madison. Registration for Career Snapshots

Attendees will learn about career programs in accounting,
finance and business management, marketing, fashion marketing, small business
operations, supervisory
management, real estate, administrative assistant, broadcast captioning, judicial
reporting, paralegal, business software applications specialist, medical administrative
specialist, medical transcription; careers in information technology – computer
systems administration specialist, programmer/analyst, web analyst/programmer,
network security specialist, network specialist, website development; and opportunities
in animation – concept development, graphic design, photography, visual
communications – media design and fine arts-college transfer.
The event
will offer attendees an opportunity to talk to MATC instructors and alumni
and students in the various fields.
MATC offers less-than-one-year
and one-year technical diplomas and two-year associate degrees
in a variety of
occupations to meet the demand in these growing fields. Career
Snapshots is a series of seminars presented by MATC that allows attendees to
participate in an interactive program focusing on particular career fields.
Whether changing careers or simply exploring different career options, community
members of all ages are encouraged to attend.
MATC is the second
largest of the Wisconsin Technical College
Systems’ 16 colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical,
liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies
and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC awards associate
degrees,
vocational diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college
serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin and offers
instruction through five campuses and various other locations throughout the
district.
