MATC 14TH ANNUAL POW WOW
CELEBRATES NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE

The annual Madison Area Technical College (MATC) Pow Wow will be held this year on Saturday, April 16. Celebrating its 14th anniversary, the MATC Pow Wow draws approximately 2,500 people to the college’s Truax location each year and features nationally known drum groups, dancers and other featured participants. Sponsored by the MATC Native American Student Association (NASA), the public is invited to the event.

Held in the Redsten Gymnasium at Truax, 3550 Anderson St., doors open at 10 a.m. with Grand Entries at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. At 5 p.m., participants will break for a meal, and the event concludes at 10 p.m. Admission is $6 per person; children under the age of five will be admitted free. The $6 contribution includes all activities and the meal at 5 p.m.

MATC’s Native American Student Association strives to bring a sense of community to the college. The members promote a positive image of Native people through education and shared experiences with the non-native population. The association also is a support system, academically as well as culturally, for all Native American students attending MATC.

MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s 16 colleges and serves approximately 50,000 individuals annually. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC provides training in more than 100 career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin and offers instruction through five campuses and various other locations throughout the district.
