MATC Career Snapshot Event Profiles Protective
Service Careers
We count on them being there in times of need. They play a critical
role in helping people. Police, paramedic and fire professionals
are vital members of our communities. Employment of police and
detectives is expected to increase faster than the average through
2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
MATC will focus on protective service careers in
an upcoming Career Snapshot on
Tuesday, March 29. The free career exploration event will be
held at the MATC Education Center,
2125 Commercial Avenue in Madison from
6-8 pm. Registration for
the Career Snapshot event is available online at www.matcmadison.edu or by calling 608/246-6239.
Attendees will learn about criminal justice, fire
protection and emergency medical careers. The event will offer
attendees an opportunity
to see hands-on activities and participate in lab simulations such
as the learning about the latest in fingerprint and evidence collection,
exploring the firefighter’s world inside a self-contained
breathing apparatus, participating in a deadly force encounter
with MATC’s firearm training simulator and observing cardiac
defibrillation demonstration and trauma scenarios. MATC instructors
and alumni also will be available to answer questions.
MATC offers less-than-one-year diplomas in criminal
justice - law enforcement academy, fire service certification,
emergency medical
technician – basic, IV tech, intermediate EMT and paramedic
and two-year associate degrees in criminal justice, paramedic technician
and fire protection technician to meet this demand.
Career Snapshots is a series of seminars presented
by MATC that allows attendees to participate in an interactive
program focusing
on particular career fields. Whether changing careers or simply
exploring different career options, community members are encouraged
to attend.
MATC is the second largest of the Wisconsin Technical
College Systems’ 16

well as customized employee training. MATC awards associate degrees, vocational
