We count on them being there in times of need. They play a critical
role in helping people. Health care professionals are vital members
of our communities. MATC will focus on less well-known health care
careers in an upcoming Career Snapshots on Tuesday, February 15. The free career

MATC District Board Adopts 2005-06 Strategic Investment Priorities, Capital Improvement Plans
The Madison Area Technical College (MATC) District Board voted at its
January action meeting to adopt strategic investments for the 2005-06
fiscal year to advance the goals of ensuring student success and strengthening
the economy in MATC district communities. The board’s decision reflects priorities that emerged from the college strategic planning process and provides direction for the preparation of MATC’s

Remodeled MATC Downtown Fitness Center Supports New Year's Resolutions
Want to keep that New Year’s resolution to get in shape? Madison Area Technical College’s newly remodeled Fitness Center at the college’s downtown location offers the support you need. The facility, located on the lower level of the MATC Downtown Education Center, is open to the Madison community—including downtown workers looking for lunchtime, before or after work exercise—as well as MATC students and staff. see press release

Madison Area Technical College Foundation has received a gift of $500,000 from John H. “Jack” Lussier to create the MATC Community Scholars Initiative and expand the Lussier Family Scholarships, established in 1988. see press release

New MATC President Bettsey Barhorst Starts Jan. 18
The new president of Madison Area Technical College (MATC), Dr. Bettsey L. Barhorst, begins her first day on the job Tuesday, launching a “Look and Listen Tour” that will take to her to all five of the college’s campuses - Madison, Fort Atkinson, Watertown, Portage and Reedsburg. Tours and receptions are planned throughout the week at each location to provide students and staff an opportunity to meet their new president as she learns about the college. see press release

MATC Graduate’s “Wildest” Machine Tool Part Wins First Place in National Competition
An MATC graduate from Portage has won a First Place Award for building the “wildest part” in a national competition for machine tool students. Tony Kulakowski captured top honors in the Wildest Part Contest sponsored by MasterCam, a leading producer of computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software. see press release
