Remodeled MATC Downtown Fitness Center Supports New Year's Resolutions

Want to keep that New Year’s resolution to get in shape? Madison Area Technical College’s newly remodeled Fitness Center at the college’s downtown location offers the support you need. The facility, located on the lower level of the MATC Downtown Education Center, is open to the Madison community—including downtown workers looking for lunchtime, before or after work exercise—as well as MATC students and staff.

The MATC Downtown Fitness Center underwent a radical change last summer, expanding its space and adding several pieces of state-of-the-art workout and training equipment. The facility added stationary bicycles, circuit weight stations, elliptical training equipment and an enhanced weight room with more free weight benches, cable cross, tubing and bosus (half stability balls). New lighting and paint helped make it more inviting and fun.

“Our membership has increased a lot, especially with students, but now the community has discovered us as well,” says Fitness Center Coordinator Robin Wagner. “With the new space, we’ve been able to add more fitness classes including aerobics, fitness balls and bosus, balance, strength and flexibility classes. I think this is a much more useful space offering our members more options for their workouts. Everyone is happier with that.”

Memberships at the Downtown Fitness Center are free for MATC students, $75 per semester for staff and $95 per semester for community members. For $110, community members may purchase a semester membership to both the Downtown MATC Fitness Center and the facility at the MATC Truax location. The MATC Truax Fitness Center includes racquetball courts, a six-lane indoor pool, workout and training equipment, weight room and gymnasium. Both facilities include access to personalized trainers, showers and locker rentals.
