MADISON AREA
TECHNICAL COLLEGE OFFERS
FREE CAR CARE CLINIC SERVICE
WITH FOOD PANTRY DONATION
Madison Area Technical College (MATC) will be holding a free car care
clinic Saturday, October 16 from 9 am to 2 pm at its Truax facility,
located at 3550 Anderson Street near Hwy. 51 in Madison. The clinic,
operated by MATC automotive students with assistance from MATC automotive
instructors, is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis
in exchange for a non-perishable food item that will be donated to a
local food pantry.
“
This is an excellent time to check your vehicle in preparation for winter,
as well as to help food pantries stock up on supplies,” stated
Craig Lathrop, MATC automotive instructor and automotive club advisor. “Our
students will check belts, hoses, wipers, brakes, cooling systems and
other key parts and top off fluids. Vehicle owners will be advised if
any mechanical problems are discovered so they then can schedule repairs
at a local service center or garage.” Repairs are not included
in clinic services.
Lathrop states that the inspections are expected to last approximately
twenty minutes each. The clinic will be held in the Center Court area
behind the main building at MATC Truax. Signs will be posted the day
of the event to direct participants to the car care clinic service area.
MATC offers four programs of study in the automotive fields: a one-year
and a two-year technical diploma in auto collision and repair, a two-year
automotive technician technical diploma, and a two-year associate in
applied science degree in automotive technology. “Employment opportunities
for trained professionals in these fields are excellent,” notes
Lathrop.
MATC is one of the largest of the Wisconsin Technical College System’s
16 colleges. It provides a comprehensive curriculum of technical, liberal
arts and science, adult basic education and life enrichment studies and
activities, as well as customized employee training. MATC provides training
in more than 100 career programs. It awards associate degrees, vocational
diplomas and certificates, and offers non-degree courses. The college
serves all or parts of 12 counties located in south-central Wisconsin
and offers instruction through five campuses and various other locations
throughout the district.
